Issue

Upgrade failures from Authentication Manager 8.5 to 8.6 are commonly due to missing or outdated Pre-Upgrade scripts.

Cause

Failure to run the Pre-Upgrade script (version 2.1) results in a corrupted RADIUS environment, mixing files from both versions. Indicators include:

Update Log Errors:

    • Exception in thread "main": Warning: Could not find file /opt/rsa/am/radius/system/lib/radVdb.so to copy
    • Could not find file /opt/rsa/am/radius/system/lib/radVdb.so

Health Checks:

  • Run history to check for script execution.
  • Look for a radius-migration directory under /opt/rsa/am.
  • Use cat /etc/issue to confirm build version.
  • Compare Operations Console or Security Console logo colors on the upper left side:
    • Red "RSA" = Authentication Manager 8.5 logo
    • Black "SecurID" = Authentication Manager 8.6 logo
    • Mismatched version and logo = corrupted upgrade from 8.5 to 8.6
Resolution

Virtual Appliances:

  1. Revert to the latest snapshot.
  2. Run the Latest Pre-Upgrade Script (Script Usage Guide)
  3. Resolve issues, take a new snapshot.
  4. Retry the upgrade.

If no snapshot exists, promote a healthy replica for Disaster Recovery.

Hardware Appliances:

  1. Restore backup to a new environment.
  2. Follow the "Restore from a Backup" guidelines.
  3. Consider promoting a healthy replica for Disaster Recovery.
