RSA SecurID SID800 Authenticator
RSA SID800
RSA Authentication Client (RAC)
Does the SID800 ship with firmware version 3.x?
SID800 used with older version of RAC and Middleware use the 2.x card format. Newer versions like Middleware 3.0.1 and RAC 3.5 use the 3.x card format.
In regards to the SID800 and it's format, the SID800 only ships in one way. A clean SID800, either from the factory or cleaned with the Card Reset Utility (CRU), is in a format-less state. The Card Conversion Utility reports it as being in the Middleware 2.x format, but it really doesn't have a format.
With no policy configured, the first time that data is written to the device, it will be written in the Middleware 3.x format. A piece of artifact to indicate 3.x format will be added to the card on the first write. If the first time write policy is configured and set to Middleware 2.x format, then the first write will be done in Middleware 2.x format. Once the device is written to, its format is established and honored by the middleware. It can only be changed by the Card Conversion Utility.
Note that the instance of the Card Conversion Utility running in the background on the user?s desktop does recognize a clean card as not being in the 2.x format, because it doesn?t prompt the user to convert the card.
