RSA released a new passkey capability in RSA Authenticator 4.5 for iOS and Android.
This capability depends on the availability of an Operating System (OS) feature called credential provider, which has been introduced in iOS 17 and Android 14.
All Apple devices running at least iOS 17 support this new feature, which allows users to authenticate using a passkey with RSA Authenticator 4.5 for iOS and Android and later.
As of October 2024, some Android devices do not support the credential provider feature. The users cannot authenticate using a passkey with the RSA Authenticator app on these devices.
You can identify if a device supports the credential provider by running the following command in the terminal or command prompt :
adb shell pm has-feature android.software.credentials
Alternatively, you can install the RSA Authenticator 4.5 app and tap the More option to check whether the passkey provider service is available or not.
The following table provides a non-exhaustive list of the devices tested for credential provider support, as of October 2024.
