Frequently asked questions regarding the replacement of a faulty hard drive on RSA SecurID Appliance 250
1. How to do I access the Dell PowerEdge A250 or R710 device via command line?
To access the RSA SecurID Appliance via command line, first enable SSH from the RSA Operations Console:
-
In the Operations Console, click Administration > Operating System Access.
-
In the SSH Settings section, select the checkbox for each NIC that needs SSH access.
-
Click Save.
-
Launch an SSH client, such as PuTTy.
-
Login as rsaadmin and enter the operating system password.
Note that during Quick Setup another user name may have been selected. Use that user name to login.
login as: rsaadmin Using keyboard-interactive authentication. Password: <enter operating system password> Last login: Tue Jul 17 13:53:49 2018 from jumphost.vcloud.local RSA Authentication Manager Installation Directory: /opt/rsa/am rsaadmin@am82p:~>
2. Before swapping the drive, do I need to take a backup of the secondary hard drive?
No specific backup is required for the secondary or the working hard drive since the appliance is configured for RAID. RAID stands for Redundant Array of Inexpensive/Independent Disks, meaning that once the failed hard drive is replaced by the new hard drive, the RAID detects the new drive and copies data over to it from the working hard drive and, once it is fully configured, it adds it to the RAID.
3. What specific commands are used to power down the hard drive?
No specific commands are required to power down the hard drive. Swap the dead disk with the newly replaced hard disk and everything will work since the hard disks are hot swappable.4. After replacing the hard drive, how do I verify that the rebuild process is taking place?
From the SSH session, run the following command to verify that the hard disk has been added and identified by the RSA SecurID Appliance:fdisk -l
