Issue
Error: "The system could not log you on. Your credentials could not be verified." while attempting to use a certificate for Smart Card Logon
Resolution
Microsoft purposely gives a non-specific error message when there is a problem with a Smart Card Logon certificate. This error can be caused by one or more of reasons. See the following URL's for more information on debugging
