Data destruction.
Customer has a concern about returning an RSA SecurID Appliance with production data on the hard drives for a return merchandise authorization (RMA).
Wiping all data from a physical hard drive on a RSA SecurID Appliance
In most cases performing a factory reset of the RSA SecurID Appliance may be enough to remove production data before returning a hardware unit back to RSA for a return merchandise authorization (RMA) or for decommissioning the SecurID Appliance. Refer to page 165 for Restoring System Defaults on the appliance in the RSA SecurID Appliance 3.0 Owner?s Guide
Alternative methods are as follows:
i) Engage RSA Professional Services in the local region to see if they can offer a service of removing the data from the hard drives.
ii) At the local console, boot from bootable media and use a third-party program to wipe all data from a physical hard drive.
One such commercial third-party is Blancco a proven data erasure solution and information on this solution can be found at www.blancco.com. An alternative to a commercial solution could be DBAN (Darik?s Boot and Nuke), a free data destruction software tool but may have limitations. Please refer to www.dban.org for information on DBAN and how to use this program.
PLEASE NOTE: The Blancco solution or DBAN program is not an RSA product and therefore not supported by RSA Customer Support. Customers are on their own using third-party software, such as DBAN. Blancco being a commercial solution is supported by Blancco Ltd.
Contact information for RSA Customer Support is located at URL http://www.emc.com/support/rsa/contact/index.htm should you require technical assistance with a purchased RSA product.
