All of our guides are updated periodically but we do not publish new guides specifically for patches.

I am not aware of patch specific guides that you mentioned.

Of what I know, you always have to start with a "base" installation before going to a patched version.

Sometimes a base version is so broken, that it will actually apply a patch. But sadly never seen that being documented anywhere. It will be seen as a surprise in your install logs 😁

And maybe that is why I write here: I sadly can't get the 8.0 base (fresh) install to work.

Won't kidnap this thread to much: But maybe we need a 8.0 P01 fresh installation pack... a bit like the extended base install that was made for 7.5.2

Because currently it feels like the 8.0 base install is using same scripts like in 7.0 (which was very buggy)

@OverthinkerDave (Customer)​ the product is becoming less dependent on the installation scripts but for now you are correct for deployment methods that use the installation scripts we still adhere to our long-standing recommendation to install the base version using the default installation scripts and then patch.

There are other deployment methods that do not use scripts and for these methods it is possible (and even recommend) to go directly to the current patch. Examples are Docker, the vmware ISO distribution, and WebLogic and WebSphere deployments.

While there are potential benefits to updating our installation scripts after the initial release this comes with a lot of risk and it's very difficult to manage. As you noted we did release 7.5.2 P03 as a fresh installation pack but this caused some new problems in itself and overall, I don't think it made the process smoother.

The installation scripts are improved with each version but ultimately, I think the solution will be to move to industry standard alternative deployment methods. The advantage here is that these are really agnostic to the unique factors in customer environments such as operating system versions that cause problems with the scripts.
