Opening RSA SecurID Software Token 4.1.2.30 for Windows Desktop produces the following message: Error loading the application. Contact your administrator.

Issue
When launching the RSA SecurID Software Token 4.1.2.30 for Windows Desktop, the following error is seen:

Error loading the application. Contact your administrator. 

Another version of this product is already installed.  Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure or remove existing versions f this product, use Add/Remove Programs on teh Control Panel

Resolution
This issue has been resolved in version 4.1.2.38, as documented in the product advisory announcing the fix for RSA SecurID Software Token 4.1.2 for Microsoft Windows (64-bit) Failing to Launch Defect.

Installation Instructions:

Customers with existing installations of the RSA SecurID Software Token 4.1.2 for Microsoft Windows (64-bit) experiencing this defect should run the updated Msiexec.exe installer from the Windows command line. The installation requires administrative privileges.


For an installation with user interaction

Use the following command:

msiexec /i RSASecurIDTokenAuto412x64.msi REINSTALL=ALL REINSTALLMODE=vamus
 

For a silent installation (with no user interaction)

Use the following command:

msiexec /i RSASecurIDTokenAuto412x64.msi /qn REINSTALL=ALL REINSTALLMODE=vamu

Note the above silent install command was found to automatically reboot the PC upon completion.  To supress reboot run.

msiexec /i RSASecurIDTokenAuto412x64.msi /qn REINSTALL=ALL REINSTALLMODE=vamus REBOOT=ReallySuppress


Installation issues

If the .msi file is double clicked instead of the command line option being run. the following error may appear:

Another version of this product is already installed.  Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure or remove existing versions f this product, use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel

If this occurs, exit from the installer and run the install from the command line.

Notes
If you unable to obtain new software the following workaround has been noted.
  1. Set the system date back to 7 March 2014.
  2. Open the RSA Desktop Token for Windows
  3. Set the date back to the current date to generate the correct passcode/tokencode
  4. Leave the Desktop Token application open until we deliver a fix.

This doesn't require an uninstall/reinstall, but would need to be executed each time that Desktop Token app is restarted.
